MONTEREY
Monterey was California's first state capital and today remains the hub of business on the Monterey Peninsula. The main business districts of Monterey can be grouped into three areas: Downtown Monterey, Ryan Ranch/ Highway 68 Corridor, and New Monterey/Cannery Row. The commercial real estate is comprised of business and medical offices, healthcare facilities, hotels/motels and retail, with pockets of light industrial and manufacturing.
Dowtown Monterey
Downtown Monterey is the city center with retail shops, hotels/ motels, business professionals and the famous Fisherman's Wharf. The heart of
downtown is Alvarado with business and commercial space on the nearby streets of Munras, Abrego and Pacific and their adjoining side streets.
City Hall, and all that entails, is on Pacific Street between Madison and Jefferson.
Ryan Ranch Business Park and the Highway 68 Corridor
The Highway 68 Corridor that connects the Monterey Peninsula to the Salinas Valley is a growing business area. Commercial buildings and office
spaces are off of Garden Road near the airport, along Highway 68 and inside the largest office and industrial center, Ryan Ranch Business Park.
This area is home to many international corporations and has a number of manufacturing facilities, office buildings and a growing number of
healthcare and medical facilities.
New Monterey and Cannery Row
New Monterey is a vibrant business area located between downtown Monterey and Pacific Grove. Lighthouse Avenue and Foam Street are the main
traffic arteries with smaller streets in between that support the bulk of commercial activity. On the waterfront is Cannery Row, and the world
famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, both of which generate a constant flow of tourist traffic. Cannery Row recently completed a major renovation,
including the opening of a new Intercontinental Hotel.
