Peter has international roots, having been born in Switzerland. He completed college with a degree in Parks & Resources but after graduation moved into real estate in 1976. In his career Peter has handled over 1,000 real estate transactions. He has been active in the community serving on multiple boards including Boy & Girls Club of Monterey County, Monterey County Hospitality Association, Apartment Association of Monterey County and Boy Scouts of America, and has served as board chair of Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.

He is an EMT and devoted many years to working dogs in wilderness search & rescue. He has been a lifetime proponent of blood donation, being a donor of over 17 gallons. Of his accomplishments he is the most proud of his family including his 2 sons, both of which are Eagle Scouts. Peter is the managing Partner of Mahoney & Associates.
